Keys to a successful project

  • Communication

Communicate, communicate, communicate! There is no such thing as too much communication when it is respectful, thoughtful and organized.

  • Realistic Expectations

Each construction project involves thousands of people, pieces of material, logistics, shipping, manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, contractors and designers all of which need to be carefully coordinated in a timely, organized fashion. Challenges will arise.

  • Tone

Set the desired tone of the project and the project team on day one. The most successful projects start with a positive attitude, frank and open lines of communication and a team approach towards all of the project challenges.

  • Understand market

Understand how the current construction market in your local area affects your project.

  • Project goals

Cost, schedule and quality are all related, so find the priority and balance of these on your project that will meet your expectations. Of the three, pick two that are of the highest priority on your project as it is challenging to succeed with all three. Lower costs often means lower quality material or expertise by project participants. Quality work takes time and money. An expedited schedule requires costly overtime and can lead to mistakes that affect quality and/or schedule.

  • Timely Responses

Timely response to issues, needs and questions not only contributes to quickly putting the issue in your rearview mirror, but also sets the tone for your project.

  • Create contingencies

Plan for unforeseen conditions and problems by proactively creating budget, contractual and plan contingencies that can be put into immediate action.

  • Over perform

    Under promise and over perform.
